Citizen insecurity in Ecuadorian provinces during the COVID-19 pandemic: multivariate statistical exploratory analysis using GGEBiplotGUI

Juan Burbano-Gallegos, Katherine García-Pinargote, Isidro R. Amaro

We carry out a multivariate exploratory analysis of the reports of criminal activity in Ecuador during the COVID-19 pandemic in the year 2020. This is presented as a comparative study between citizen insecurity before, during and after national lockdown. Since the number of cases and the population's compliance with distancing measures varied throughout the country, reports of criminal activity were studied by province. To analyze the data we used the R package GGEBiplotGUI. As a result, we noticed some significant differences between the criminal activity before, during and after the emergency state was declared in the country. The numbers of all cases dropped dramatically and the trends in types of criminal activities changed differently in each province.
